Frostgrave: Dwarf Warband - 5 dwarfs ready

Just a quick group shot of my Dwarf warband project for Frostgrave. Five models done:

Wizard, Enchanter, Treasure Hunter, Demon Hunter and Captain.

This is gonna be a nice looking group when finished. I have an old GW hammerer to use as a Templar and an extra HeroQuest dwarf to become an infantryman.

Frostgrave: Dwarf Captain

This is another lovely Avatars of War dwarf model. A grumpy, stoic old dwarf, with a bear cloak is perfect for a Captain model. But for the new Frostgrave warbands this guy can double as a thug (hand weapon), infantryman (two-handed weapon).

I've painted this guy in some regal looking deep reds, I feel it adds to his noble look.

The smoke is made from some discarded aquarium filter and super glue.

Frostgrave: Dwarf Enchanter and Apprentice

I love fantasy dwarfs, there's so many characterful models on the market. For an enchanter warband in Frostgrave dwarfs are an excellent choice.

The wizard is a nice model from Avatars of War. Originally wanted him as the apprentice, but since he has so much bulk he's taking the lead.

The apprentice is an old Warhammer runesmith.

I want all my dwarf models to have many different colours, fitting the style from an old The Hobbit graphic novel I've read.

Mass Effect: Commander Shephard and his team

Ever since I played through the Mass Effect games, I've wanted to make my favourite characters as models. There's a few different sets available from Shapeways - but with sufficient detail they are pretty expensive.

I once asked my good mate Matte from Admiralty Miniatures, if I could commission him to make some heads. He ended up making a set, have them cast and them put up for sale.

This was a nice project of mixing and matching different bits and only using a bit of greenstuff, to add a bit of extra detail. There's photos of the finished and painted models at the buttom of this blogpost.

Urdnot Wrex, the Grogan: Mantic Enforcer arms, on a Peace Keeper body. Chopped up the foot to make the toes look right. Added some greenstuff details to give him the right shape on the back. Pistol from enforcer sprue as well.

Mordin Solus, the Salarian: For the body I've used an old restic Wrath model (from Deadzone), added some pouches from the Warlord Games zombie survivor kit. The omnitool is from a Dreadball female human and the pistol is from the enforcers. I added some shoulder pads from greenstuff, as there was some holes in the arms (for some fabric on the Wrath model). The 'claw' on his neck is from a Dreadball robot.

Garrus Vakarian, the Turian: A mantic enforcver model. I've cut the feet, to make them look like a turian. The spikes behind the knees are plastic sprue cut into shape. And to get the right shape on the armor, I've added some simple greenstuff details.

Thane Krios (drell), Tali'Zorah (qurian), Ashley Williams (human):
Thane is made from a Games Workshop dark eldar wytch, where I've cut off all the spikes. The gun arm is from a Mantic enforcer and the sniper is made from various gun bits.

Tali is also a dark eldar wytch. Her omni-tool is made from a Thermal Mine (enforcer) and the submachine gun is a cut up pathfinder tag rifle. I've also given her some utility pouches from the Warlord Games zombie survivors.

Ashleys is an almost vanilla Dreadball femail Void Sirene with an enforcer pistol hand added. I've repose her right arm with some hot water, as it was raised in the air before.

Urdnot Wrex (grodan), Commander Shephard (human), Legion (geth):
The Commander Shephard model is from Brother Vinnis. The only thing I've done with it, is to add a pistol to his back.

Legion is a Dreadball MVP model, perfect model for legion. I've reposed his arms with hot water and added a sniper rifle from the Enforcer Pathfinder sprue.

Garrus Vakarian (turian), Mordin Solus (salarian), Liara T'Soni (asari):
The model I've used for Liara is a cheap resin copy of an Infinity model. Found it on Ebay, not knowing it was a recast or an infinity model. But it has a nice pose. Model came with a sword, that I haven't used.

Painted strike team
For colours I've gone for a look as close to the colours used in the game (if not changed the standards).

I don't really know in which game these guys will see action. Perhaps in Star Saga with help from the Character Creation Expansion, maybe in a game of Scrappers as a scavenger team (using the aliens as mutants). They could also work well with Rogue Stars.

I think they can be run in Deadzone as well, as a reb team. Using Wrex as a Teraton, Mordin as a Judwan Medic, Legion and Thane as Reb Snipers.

40k: Inquisitor Eisenhorn and Vindicare Assassins

I'm a big fan of the Inq28 movement. Gritty, dark, grim, characters fitting for the places of 40k that's not massive battlefields. I've never read much Games Workshop fiction (other than Codex), but I couldn't let go of the Eisenhorn Trilogy after I started it.

The books about Inquisitor Eisenhorn expanded my knowledge and view on the 40k universe in a big way. So when I found the Artel W miniature on ebay I bought it right away (of cause Games Workshop have since then brought out their own version).

This Eisenhorn model is resin and rather slim compared to heroic sized 28mm models. I've bulked out the model by adding some debris on the base. For Gregors colours, I've went with the colours used on the front cover on the omnibus.

The Vindicare Assassins are both from different trades and they are some cool looking models.

For the bases I've added rusty battlefield debris and grey colours on the sand. It's neutral enough to fit into a lot of different battlefields and terrain types.

Deadzone: Forge Father Boss and Brokkr Bike

These two models are some that I've been wanting to paint for a long time. The Dreadball trainer I got through a trade. I don't have any specific plans for the models, but he's cool and will probably be an NPC in some games. I've used gold on him, like I've done on all the Huscarls - so he has some rank.

I can see the model fitting into Star Saga scenarios, a Deadzone WIP needing rescue, a squat trader in games of Necromunda, as part of a Scrappers gang. It's just a nice model to have.

The Brokkr Biker is from Ramshackle Games and sculpted by Curtis Fell. I love the models he does, really cheap, old school and with free shipping on all order. Tried finding an official Mantic one, but failed to get one (and didn't need a big box of models).

I've painted both these models to match the colours of my other Forge Fathers

Bases are as always done by myself, there's a tutorial here. The container is homemade.

Frostgrave: Animal Encounters

There's lots of difference animals to encounter and summon in Frostgrave. I've had lots of fun collecting all the different ones. Some are old Games Workshop models from the bit box, some are toys for a thrift shop and some are Reaper Bones. I've even used some jewelry.

Some of the models have snow bases other have plain cobble stone bases (to better fit in dungeons and other settings).

But all bases have the same tufts, static grass and birch tree seed leaves - to tie it all nicely together.

Ice Toads
Big frogs with a killer jaw. I've bought a tube of super cheap 'retile' toys and used those. The small one is on a 32mm base, the other two on 40mm square. I've given the big ones an extra set of eyes - because it's fantasy monsters.

Wild Dogs
These dogs are made from Mantic Games sprue 'Plague Stage 3a'.I've used two new plastic and two old restic dogs. I've added a bit of greenstuff fur to them. They have a real ferral and starved look to them.

Spiders
Two spiders are Reaper Bones, one is an old Games Workshop spider and the long legged one is actually a piece of ear jewelry. After dipping them, I've added static grass to their bodies for a gross hairy look.

Boars
The small boar is a plastic model, I think it's from Malifaux (got it in a trade). The bigger one on a 40mm base is a repainted toy.

Wolves
Classic models from Games Workshop. I got these from a friend who was quitting the hobby. I just added some blood and round bases.

White Gorillas
Both these models are repainted toy gorillas. It's not high quality models, but they cost next to nothing and still have fur texture. A decent model, that you only roll once in a while.

Giant Rats
Reaper Bones rat models. Cheap as dirt and three different sculpts.

Bear and Snow Leopard
Both are from the Reaper Bones animal companion set. I think the leopard should have had some more spots painted on it, might add those one day. The bear is a nice little model, but I want cooler model one day. Like a bike Kislev bear.

In terms of Frostgrave rules I think the bear is the best summoned animal you can have i the warband.

Wolverine, Blood Crow and Badger
The Blood Crow is for use with the crow master - a soldier type.

I've written  tutorials for the trees and the ruined walls used in the background.
