Fantasy: Cultists

I recently posted my Necromancer, his minions and the starter warband for Frostgrave. The cultist models I painted up a long time ago. I think they were painted (at least build) way back for the Thaw of the Lich Lord campaign.

It's a lovely kit. I build my cultist models to work on its own as a warband I would play - and cover what's needed for the Thaw campaign.

As with most of my FG boxes, I only build 10 models. I sold off the other half and made back on my investment. I'm a trader - also hitting at getting near free models left for myself.

When painting these I've used different greys and browns, and three different purples. Some were washes with purple wash and others with brown. To add different tones all over, but keeping them uniform.

I decided to not add snow on their bases, as the models work very well for other games too. Could be used in Guilders or Nightwatch.

Infantrymen or templars. Could work as both. I have an old metal Rackham model that I've also painted in purple, to work as a proper armored templar. Added a bit box cloak to one guy.

Bowman and crossbowman. I don't recall adding extra bits to these, but I've added a bowstring (as I always do) to the box.

Treasure Hunters were the best troops in first edition, so these are build as that - to be used as thugs first. Gave them GW dwarf backpacks, cause thieves need to carry a lot of stuff.

A thug and a knight / men-at-arms. Also added some bitbox cloaks to these two.

Lastly an apothecary and a tracker. Both staff are converted from the spears in the FG kits. The potion belt for the apothecary is gunpowder cannisters from olf GW dwarves.

As always

Guilders 1.32

After some more playtesting I've updated to 1.32. There's a bunch of minor tweaks in there. I have a list of further tweaks, items and more skills to add. But to not get bugged down in constat core tweaks, those will come later.

Decided to start working on the campaing. All the over tweaks will now be noted done. I will add those for 1.4 that'll have the campaign. Otherwise I could do nothing else but upload minor tweaks.

So far I'm thinking for campaign, so please add your ideas as well.

Looking to start writing the campaign for Guilders. But it's a daunting task to start. The 'core' pretty much wrote itself after starting. But this is a bit like starting over.

Made a list of things I must include. Most parts should help tell the story (of the guild and characters). I want each dice roll to be part of telling a story. Please go over the list and add whatever ideas og parts you find missing.

Guild:

*Staring a guild (like in core)

- Guild Hall / Areas of control. Upgrades for the guild, can be worked between games. Offer some bonus in game or for loot. Doctors room, smithy, brothel. Story: Shows growing influence.

*After the games

- Levelling, XP

- Loot tables

- Injury / captured

- The city / work: Sending guilders into the city for random encounters

*Trading / hiring

- buying / selling gear, rarity of items

- Hiring guilders - not all will be availble after each game.

*Fame / Infamy

- some kind of guild / warband rating.

- Inducements, bonus for warbands that's far behind someone else. Offer a bit of balnce in games between uneven warbands.

WIP shots
Here's some photos from the last playtest, where we played Tavern Brawl. Excellent game with a new player and some great feeback from fresh eyes.

Frostgrave: Necromancer Warband

Back in the day, before Covid came back and closed everything again - I and two friends wanted to start a new FG campaign. As with all new campaign, I always do new models. This time I wanted to play a Necromancer - going in really heavy on summoning to build themed models for it all.

The campaign never got started though and at this point I've moved on to a full focus on Guilders - A Life In Shadows! But the warband is nice and it's mostly based to fit use in other games as well.

Full starting warband, after a few succesful spells.

My apprentice on the left, an old metal GW chaos sorcerer. Painted a long time ago, just gave him a touch up and added some red runes to his skull mask and staff. On the right is a Massive Darkness wizard. I modded his staff with a cool skull and added some skulls to his belt.

I really like the cyan bright eyes.

Summon Animal - zombie bears
I love summon animal companion and the bear has a fantastic profile. I've painted up bears for multible warbands. These are Nolzur and Reaper Bones bear models. I chopped by pieces of plastic from them, and sculpted with greenstuff as wounded areas. Then added arrows sticking out from them.

Illusionary Soldier
I've had these gost for a long time. They're from some warhammer vampire spirit wagon thing. Cut the ghosts a bit shorter. They've been painted white, with a couple of blue wash layers. Can be used as ghost for anything, but I've chosen illusionary soldier - just to bring these. It's about enhancing the story of the

Animate Construct
These have a very high casting number, but I wanted to bring gross constructs for the Necromancer. I've painted up two The Others demons and a Reaper Bones flesh golems. These are to be used as medium and large constructs - with a bit of luck.

A final word

Guilders - A Life in Shadows

The blog has been dormant for some time. I haven't really been focussing on it at all. Well, now it's time to tell why.

For the last few months I have been working on a Tabletop Roleplaying Miniatures Game.

Guilders - A Life in Shadows

A game about thief guilds, with living NPC environments and a long campaign.

It is lifted from a nostalgia of Mordheim and the Warhammer Quest RPG book.
And created from the desire to own a miniature fantasy city that is fully Baldurs Gate or Tarbean from The Name of the Wind.

Built on experience from the last 7 years full hobby focus on skirmish gaming.

I have missed a skirmish game that had a greater degree of role-playing in it. The game I wanted to play I could not find, they were all missing a little something - so now I'm writing it myself.

Now after a lot of read throughs, changes and game tests it's reality. Therefore, it is now coming out to public beta.

Here's the cool stuff:
  • 1.3 Beta (a playable game)
  • Tokens (all the tokens you might encounter in the game)

Games live through community, so it needs to be built up and I really want to have fresh eyes on the game.
Right now the core is working, it's a game that can be played. But I might be blind to broken rules. The next update will be with the first edition of the campaign section.

So I just share the link to the Facebook community group, hoping you will follow the process, watch the game and maybe even try it.

You're also more than welcome to join the Discord or tag #Guilders #ALifeInShadows wherever out there.

I'm really looking forward to sharing the progress on this game and all the miniatures and terrain I'm working on.

Sincerely

Søren Bloodbeard Bay
