Shadow Dragon - Onyx

On the Discord we have quarterly hobby challenges. These are good fun hobby projects and a friednly competition. Themes are decided by members and so is the voting on entries. For this challenge we went for miniatures that are big compared to their scale.

I've painted up a Dungeons and Lasers dragon - fairly big for the 28mm scale.

This dragon miniature is painted like Onyx, the main character in a LitRPG book series by Lars Machmüller. I really enjoy the audiobooks, so I painted this up as a surprise gift for him. I also send along a ghost, that's a secondary character in the series.

It's all painted with speed paints.

Lars has been kind enough to read through Guilders a couple of times, picking up a ton of different errors in the manuscript. Check him out on Audible

This Is Not A Test: Super Mutant

This Super Mutant is from the boardgame The Others - part of Wrath. Never played the game, I just got it for all the kicksass miniatures. After some auctioning off part of the game, I have a ton of free miniatures left. This guy had goat claw originally, so I made him some simple greenstuff military boots.

This guy is painted with Speed Paint 1.0 and I did a bunch of pre-wash in the recessed areas.

Since this guy will go into my Zona Alfa and This Is Not A Test game I used The Institute colors on one of his armor plates. The Institute is a faction in many of the the worlds I play. And that force is slowly growing over time.

The miniature was painted as part of a big guy community challenge, we run those regularly over on the Discord community. You should come check it out.

I really like how this guy turned out, it shows what speed paint can do pretty well (it's excellent for skin). And it's really nice to have a reason to use some of all those free minis just hanging out in the garage.

Fantasy - Dire and Were Animals

Were and dire animals are coo. These two were painted quickly with base coat, drybrush and wash primarely. Just to get something done. But they'll work in all manner of different games, so they are good to have.

The were bear is from Blacklist Miniatures Fantasy Series 1. A big, havey piece of plastic. I do like his bulk, painted in a very miniatures.

This guy is a dire wolf from Ramshackle Games. One piece of resin. Ramshackle sell a lot of crazy miniatures and very cheaply. I'm sad that brexit has made it a bad deal to shop from there (because Danish import rules add a ton of cost outside EU).

This is a good wolf leader to have among all the other wolves, which I've painted a lot of during the years for all manner of games.

Terrain: Mead sellers wagon

This wagon was part of the Dungeons and Lasers: Encounters kickstarter, as a stretch goal. It's a nice kick and goes together well. There's a lot of honey and barrels on it, so it's a mead seller. Though the sign says 'Honey Ale'.

This was a really quick speed paint session. After giving it all spray varnish, it got a complete Vallejo Dark Sand drybrush, that does good to any miniature.

Besides being just an awesome piece of scatter terrain, it also serves as an objective in a Guilders: A Life In Shadows heist named The Carriage.

I've painted a lot of scatter terrain pieces over the years and I've really come to enjoy lots of colors on it. It just makes everything look so much more lively when playing, than all wood areas just being brown.

Please check out my LinkTree: I use all the SoMe different, post dfferent stuff and such. Drop a few follows and come join the awesome Discord community. I also post a bunch of stuff on Instagram, so please drop a follow over there, help this place grow a bit.

Warhammer 40k: Imperial Knight

This is the first Imperial Knight I've painted up. It's my son's miniature, he got it for christmas. I got it in an auction and it was just under half price for a new kit. It was new in box, so I also got to build it together with my son.

He also chose the colors for it. I base coated the entire thing red - which was a mistake. Because it was really bad to paint up the all the metal areas. When I did the Titan later on, I base coated it all in metal instead and painted the colored areas up.

The shield and should details are made with a thin marker, it works pretty neatly for something like this, where there's no decals with the miniature (i didn't get any).

This was an amazing miniature to build, a really well done model kit.

And here's the knight next to his 3d printed titan big brother.

I'm currently building all manner of 40k themed stuff. really into some inq28 looking types, it's nice kitbashing and will be entered into a community challenge on the Discord - why not come join it?

Daemon Prince of Nurgle

My kids simply loves Nurgle. Back when 8th edition 40k came out, I bought a ton of Nurgle and Deathguard stuff for cheap or free (the regular buy, resell, break even trick). Also got the Forge World daemon prince of nugle miniature.

It's been in the garage for years, but now it's painted up. All Army Painter Speedpaint (except the metal). Also gave it a gloss varnish for that shiny wet and gross look.

I'm especially happy with the look that came out on the rusted decayed metal parts.

I made the hoses from the arm to the barrel myself with greenstuff, I must have lost the originals at some point.

He's standing nice and gross in the cabinet with the other nurgle dudes.

I mostly do non GW stuff, all manner of smaller indie and skirmish games. I post about it here and there, my main pressence is over on Discord. So maybe jump in there and have a look. It's all collected over on LinkTree

Insurgent Earth: The Institute crew

This is a crew I've painted for a community competition over on the Stalker7 facebook community, it's a nice place. Patrick Todoroff collects all his different systems in that one group, a brilliant idea not splitting everything up. He also runs fairly regular competitions.

I found these miniatures in the boxes in the garage. They are from Endure The Stars and The Others, both kickstarters I've gotten cheap and broken even on by selling excess minis. These are for Insurgent Earth, a solo/coop system.

They are three scientists from The Institute (that's also part on my Zona Alfa lore) and their two military guides. They're painted quickly with speed paint, with only prewashing on the skin parts. The institute has their regular yellow color scheme with blue details and the blue triangle.

I haven't checked if the group is in anyway rules legal, but it was a nice excuse to use some of those models just living in a box.

Here they group are with their t.r.o.l.l. suit done for a Zona Alfa competition.

The conversion work on these was very minimal, it was just adding packs to all the characters and a few belt details. Super easy, but making them more tacticool.

Big Stompy Robot

Over on the Discord Community we run quarterly hobby challanges. The members decide us as theme to run and we all build, paint and enter something. For one of the previous challanges we rolled up random characters and had to make those. Then we used a random flag generator to come up with colors.

I rolled the following: A Mad Villain Arcanist, unarmed in heavy protection.

Colors / symbol: Mostly White, secondary Yellow, with details in Blue and a crown.

I fairly quickly had an idea in mind for what project I wanted to do. A long time ago I bought a Big Stompy Robot for Mars Attacks by Mantic Games, I decided to to that. I wanted this made, to play with the behemoth rules for This Is Not A Test.

I found some suitable tehnolog (russian made cheap terrain) in a box and a great mad scientist from Reichbursters by Mythic Games.

The Bits

The biggest part is an old mantic martian robot. It was boringly put together, so I ripped it apart and made a better pose on legs and arms. The dome on his head is a tehnolog silo, I cut out the front. Had some random 40k building things, that I made into hydrolic hinges. Then also added some antennas and shouldpads made from a scavenged warship model kit.

I also took the heat and shrink ray arms and combined them into a single bigger gun!

Painting and basing
I basecoated the entire miniature with a gun metal color and gave it a lot of washes. Added the white and yellow from my flag on a few armor pieces.

For the base I really wanted to go for 50s scifi stumpy robot. I made a street base with cork on a cd. Then I added a sidewalk with cardboard. Should have used a second layer of cork, as it would have raised the sidewalk better.

I found a bit of pieces from the old Mantic Terrain Crate 2 kickstarter and added a smashed up motorcycle, a bike and a fire hydrant.
