My regular opponent for miniature games like Frostgrave and Last Days: Zombie Apocalypse needed another model.
His good Samaritan in our zombie games (a drunken disorderly preacher) has gotten an SMG in the game. Instead of simply adding a SMG to his back, I decided to build a copy of him for my friend. I have plenty of the same base model (a studio miniatures plastic zombie).
Besides the Uzi I've given him some other equipment as well. A backpack for his bible. I made the straps on the backpack with photo paper (it's thicker than regular paper).
Gonna send him to my mate, so he can be painted in the same style and with the same colors as the first one.

Dunkeldort - first three painted
Painted up the three metal models I got as a gift from King Games, the guys behind Dunkeldorf Miniatures. These are hitting Kickstarter soon.
At first I really didn't know what to use the barber surgeon and mayor models. Not really playing any RPG games and not needing NPCs in our Frostgrave games.
But after looking the models over, they seemed perfect for my homemade Bloodbowl human team. One model being an excellent team owner, manager or coach. The other model is obviously an apothecary.
Went with the same colors as the team they work for, with some added white to the apothecary.

Bertha has a real nice Mordheim vibe going on for her.And I wanted to do that justice with fairly colors. I did add some striped pants, as that's all the rave in The Empire.
I'm still not quite sure what I'll use the rat catcher as, but she could be fielded as a thug in Frostgrave. But I'm also juggling some ideas for her as a pied piper and leader of a rat infestation. That could be a cool scenario.

Surrounded at the harbor
Once again two groups of everyday not much anymore) heroes battle during the zombie apocalypse. We've chosen the scenario with a horde descending on the survivors and them having to capture an escape vehicle.
We changed the scenario a bit however. Every vehicle on the board could drive away with the survivors (not just one), but before we could attempt to start the vehicle, we had to get fuel.
On the map was several barrels of fuel. A survivor could pick up and carry fuel as a supply token. The fuel would then have to be carried to a vehicle and the attempt to start it.
We set up a cool harbor area to play on. The the blog posts for this stuff here.
My group set up together in a tight formation. The plan was to quickly gain entry to the warehouse and secure fuel from there. Meanwhile some would break off and try to secure supplies from the ship. At the same time fuel on the ship could be backup if things went FUBAR in the warehouse.
My opponent split up his troops more than me, making for several routes across the table.
This was the first game bringing my new survivor Robert 'Bobby' Munz. A crazy survivalist carrying a heavy hunting rifle. I had also chosen his specialty to rifles, so it would do a lot of damage but had very limited ammo.
The soldier Frederick Lewis did as always - take up high ground and lay down fire across the board.
Duncan Atkins carrying riot gear armor and the doctor hiding from a zombie.
Duncan being armed only with a pistol and a machete seeks out close combat with zombies. I take a shot at them with Bobby and end up taking out the zombie for him.
Firefighter Sam broke down the backdoor into the warehouse. Good supplies and some fuel to be had inside.
Doctor Hendricks is moving towards the side entrance of the warehouse.
SWAT member John is keeping the back entrance clear and getting ready to blast Dr. Hendricks - he has a clean shot at my guys inside.

A close quarter firefight started in the warehouse. Taking good use of the 'Lock and Load' rules, forcing me to take shots when moving around inside. In the end however the shotguns of Carla and father Job won over my opponent. The pistol and magnum simple wasn't strong enough, though father Job was taken out in the fight.
Frederick Lewis was getting in trouble as well. He did a lot of shooting from the top of a shipping container. But it attracted a lot of zombies, climbing some palettes to get him. He did a good job, keeping them away. But once it had started, a new climbed as fast as he could put another down.
The constant stream of walkers climbing the container to try and eat Frederick Lewis.
I the end I got to a trash truck first and filled my fuel onto it. But Bai Wu was trying to start the truck from the other side of it. In the end my guys succeeded in starting it and bailing first. But unfortunately they didn't manage to fix it well enough - no permanent escape vehicle for my team.
Alice and Wade had spend most of their game on the ship. When things started to heat up on the center of the board, they ditched their supplies to get fuel on some smaller boats. So I didn't get many supplies from this game.
I did find a nice hunting bow. I'm gonna stick it on Robert 'Bobby' Munz, the new guy. Having an ammo 3 high powered rifle is bad. It makes too much noise and has to be constantly reloaded - so that was a bad investment. Gonna make the model again - with a hunting bow and an SMG instead.
My opponent made it out with his leader alive, so he hired a survivalist as well, with a big gun and some first aid supplies. Ian had joined the team.

Dunkeldorf: Three models
The nice people running King Games (my hobby shop for anything not GW) has a kickstarter coming up. It's for a set of old school hand sculpted dark fantasy characters. All characters come with backstory and everything.
As I understand it the characters and the city the live in - Dunkeldorf - is from an old Warhammer RPG campaign.
Anyway!
They send me three of the upcoming models. Thank you King Games.
The models scale up nicely other models from the collection. Here's they're next to a Reaper Bones monk, GW Empire Militia and and old GW War Wagon halberdier.
The models are also the extremes in the line, in terms of size. The Burgomeister (left) is the lowest model. The Doctor and The Rat Catcher are the highest models in the line.
I have no idea what I'm gonna use these models for as I don't play RPG games anymore (and never played with miniatures). I'm still gonna paint these up, I'm looking forward to it. And some of the models will see action in games of Frostgrave.
I could see The Rat Catcher work as a thug model. Looking forward to painting up these models and I'm going all in on the kickstarter campaign. When good people try to make a dream like this come true, I want to support that.

Roman RISK - First three days
The project I've been working on for a long time is off the ground. And it's a huge success with the kids at my school. All Roman RISK posts here.
For three days they been fighting a civil war, after the assassination of Caesar. The game has been running contentiously from around 0830 in the morning to 1335, each day. Kids hanging out in there breaks, after school and as soon as the doors open in the morning.
It's been pretty hard to snap any photos, because I'm constantly running the gaming.
Been wanting to write up each day - but I've been hammered after hours of constantly having kids yelling in my face. Eager to play - it's great to tiring.
Various kids from the eight different teams will come, be set in line for a turn and make on off three options:
All the well painted boardgame pieces before the game got going. I've since added another 10 cataphracts and 25 legionaries to each team (only base coated in team colors).
The Pyramids and Library of Alexandria (two point territories) guarded by Praetorians at the start of the game.
The white team (Brutus) being in second place. Having secure Dacia and taking control of Rome (which was first conquered by orange (Cassius)).
Orange (Cassius) beat black (Cleopatra) from Asia minor and is controlling the eastern part of the empire and the important ancient wonders there.

- Move troops in their territory or move ships
- Attack a territory with units from neighboring areas
- Buy units or upgrades
This way when doing battles between multiple factions, they have to think about strategy. As they'll be last in line after moving troops, ready to attack later - leaving them vulnerable for opponents to bring in reinforcements or counter attack.
Workshops
The teams are following a single workshop for an entire day. And my great colleagues have made eight different workshops. We have: Roman history, gladiator food, perspective drawing of roman buildings, mosaics, roman math and numbers, graphic novels (of roman historic episodes or culture), puppet theater film.
The kids are then award between 100-200 Denali depending effort, team work, made assignments etc pr day.
Points
Points are awarded for
- 1 pr territory (land and sea)
- 2 pr important (laurel marked) territory ¨
- 5 for Rome (also giving 5 denarii three times a day)
- 2 pr temple build
- 1 pr senator bribed
- 2-4 for controlling an entire province (there's 13). Provinces also provide their points in bonus denarii three times a day.
In the lead
A each break (two pr day) and at the end of the day, I've counted the points. Put them on a board for all to see. The teams have gone up and down. Making alliances to tip the leading team from the top post. Then to fall on each other afterwards, making constant shifting in placement.
Tactics
We've seen many different tactics. Some teams really on temples, senators and well defended territories. Some teams gain points from rapid expansion, going for easy territories. Some have gone for dominance at sea. And some have worked towards securing provinces.
Monday
Monday
The board at the beginning. All unclaimed territories were guarded between 1-3 barbarians (rolling d6 in fights). Two point territories and Rome were guarded by Praetorians (rolling d8 in fights).

The end of Tuesday saw the black team (Cleopatra) in the lead with nearly 50 points. Running a rapid expansion war, the had lots of territories and controlled three provinces. Stretching from Cyrenica over Syria and all the way to the black sea.
The white team (Brutus) being in second place. Having secure Dacia and taking control of Rome (which was first conquered by orange (Cassius)).
Wednesday
Today saw a complete shift in placement. White (Brutus) started by getting battered in the north by Black (Cleopatra). Cleopatra having made alliances with many teams - but non wanted them to win and all broke them. Weakened, the white team (Brutus) saw themselves attacked by green (Marcus Antonius) and blue (Cicero). Both team wanting easy territories for themselves - been in the middle with points.
Orange (Cassius) beat black (Cleopatra) from Asia minor and is controlling the eastern part of the empire and the important ancient wonders there.
The grey team (Octavian) launched a fleet filled with troops. Tipping black (Cleopatra) from first place. Invading an ill defended Cyrenica and threatening Egypt itself. Forcing them to retreat and go on the defence.
Meanwhile the yellow team (Lepidus) have secured all Spain and the three provinces there.
So Wednesday saw grey (Octavian) and (Lepidus) fighting for first place at the Pillars of Hercules (Gibraltar). If one team could disrupt the other they would secure first place. Yellow being depended on points from controlling the province Baetica. Grey (Octavian) being depending on points from controlling all Mauretania.
Red team (Pompeius Sextus) used these wars to secure all the middle of Africa. Numidia and Africa Proconsularis.
Also interesting is the white (Brutus) being cut in half (controlling Italy and Rome) and the far easy of Dacia. But both green (Marcus Antoinus) and blue (Cicero) is massing troops to invade Italy and take Rome.
It's been the best day yet. Lots of kids having found tactics, learned the game, planning and making ready for two more days of fighting.
