Frostgrave: Necromancer Warband

Back in the day, before Covid came back and closed everything again - I and two friends wanted to start a new FG campaign. As with all new campaign, I always do new models. This time I wanted to play a Necromancer - going in really heavy on summoning to build themed models for it all.

The campaign never got started though and at this point I've moved on to a full focus on Guilders - A Life In Shadows! But the warband is nice and it's mostly based to fit use in other games as well.

Full starting warband, after a few succesful spells.

My apprentice on the left, an old metal GW chaos sorcerer. Painted a long time ago, just gave him a touch up and added some red runes to his skull mask and staff. On the right is a Massive Darkness wizard. I modded his staff with a cool skull and added some skulls to his belt.

I really like the cyan bright eyes.

Summon Animal - zombie bears
I love summon animal companion and the bear has a fantastic profile. I've painted up bears for multible warbands. These are Nolzur and Reaper Bones bear models. I chopped by pieces of plastic from them, and sculpted with greenstuff as wounded areas. Then added arrows sticking out from them.

Illusionary Soldier
I've had these gost for a long time. They're from some warhammer vampire spirit wagon thing. Cut the ghosts a bit shorter. They've been painted white, with a couple of blue wash layers. Can be used as ghost for anything, but I've chosen illusionary soldier - just to bring these. It's about enhancing the story of the

Animate Construct
These have a very high casting number, but I wanted to bring gross constructs for the Necromancer. I've painted up two The Others demons and a Reaper Bones flesh golems. These are to be used as medium and large constructs - with a bit of luck.

Terrain: Armory

After finishing some of my dungeon tiles, I had to get ready for some Rangers of Shadow Deep. For that I needed an armory. And Perilous Dark from Frostgrave takes part in a weapons factory.

I you want to check out all the dungeon build videos and articles, jump over to the dungeon hub

The armory

Again jumping into the box of fantasy terrain crate, heroquest and dungeon saga.

The terrain crate weapons racks are really annoying bits. They are all warped all over the place. And even using hot water and adding bases to them, the pole arms are all over the place. I much prefer the old HeroQuest weapon rack.

But there is three weapon racks from the kickstarter, that's a nice amount. I've made sure to paint of the shields in different colors, to add some difference to them. There's also a weapon cache, I think that one is from Kow: Vanguard.

For the armory I've also painted up a barrel of explosives and a grinding stone. Looking forward to doing some black smith stuff. I have a furnace and such around somewhere.

The pile of armor and weapons are from the treasure room terrain crate. The other piles are made from different pieces from the collection. The crates and barrels are from renedra, hobby stores and some resin pieces I don't know where I got from. I've just added weapon bits from the bit box to make them into armory bits.

Terrain: Torture Chamber

After finishing some of my dungeon tiles, I had to get ready for some Rangers of Shadow Deep. For that I needed a torture chamber.

I you want to check out all the dungeon build videos and articles, jump over to the dungeon hub

Torture Chamber

I went into the garage and dug out all manner of bit from my 'terrain crate' box - also having other kinds of bits. I gave a good amount of different torture chamber bits to use. Let's check them out.

A necromancer and a guard working at a table. Took one of my terrain crate tables and added bits from the bits box. A hand from a zombie kit, a bunch of knives from somewhere. There's a bag with a hand (think it's from FG cultists or Mantic zombies). Also used the doctors bag from Dunkeldorf and added a small candle, don't know where that is from.

A couple of reaper bones bits I got donated. Added a renedra base to the coal basket. The faun is from Admiralty Miniatures.

An old HeroQuest bench, a prisoner from Terrain Crate and a Reaper Bones iron maiden.

A couple more pieces from Reaper Bones. Painted up the bear trap to work in the torture chamber as well. The dwarven prisoner is from Admiralty Miniatures.

For this torture chamber and prison setup, I still need to build some cages. I think I'll be doing one and casting it a couple of times with plaster.

Frostgrave: Djinn and the Lamp

Made a Djinn from an old Hero Quest Warlock, an extra model I had lying around after a trade. I simply cut of his legs and twisted some greenstuff around. The paint job was simple to do, a purple base coat and a couple drybrush highlights.

The table is made from various model bases glued on top of each other. Added a rusty sword from a Mantic KoW skeleton sprue, a lamp for Zealot Miniatures and some nail glitter as gold coins.

Frostgrave: Living Statues

Some statues to use in either Ulterior Motives or the Living Museum scenario for Frostgrave. These are some extra Hero Quest models I got through a trade (I would never hurt my Hero Quest models otherwise).

An easy little project putting them on the pliths made from bases. Black base coat, some grey drybrush and highlight drybrush. The I just added a bit of ivy and flock to them.

Besides seing use in the specific scenario, these models will also be used as simple terrain on my dungeon board.

Frostgrave: Zombies

My collection of zombies from Frostgrave. I'm simply using my models from Dungeon Saga and Hero Quest. I mostly put the Hero Quest models on the table, because those old sculpts are so lovely!

The stone basing on the Hero Quest models are done with pieces of plastic cards. It adds a lot to those old models.

Frostgrave: Skeletons

My collection of skeletons is from all manner of games. But I'm using both Hero Quest and Dungeon Saga skeleteons. Haven't snowed these bases, as that would look out of place in their dungeons.

But the tufts I use and the leaves (birch tree seed) is common for both winter and dungeon bases.

I've also painted up some Loka (fantasy chess by Mantic Games) skeletons. Their fur boots and fur loincloths give them a nice Felstadt feel.

And this two skeletons is the highest needed on the random encounter tables for Thaw of the Lich Lord and core Frostgrave.

Check out my other Frostgrave Beastiary.
