Terrain: Armory

 After finishing some of my dungeon tiles, I had to get ready for some Rangers of Shadow Deep. For that I needed an armory. And Perilous Dark from Frostgrave takes part in a weapons factory.

The armory

Again jumping into the box of fantasy terrain crate, heroquest and dungeon saga. 

The terrain crate weapons racks are really annoying bits. They are all warped all over the place. And even using hot water and adding bases to them, the pole arms are all over the place. I much prefer the old HeroQuest weapon rack. 

But there is three weapon racks from the kickstarter, that's a nice amount. I've made sure to paint of the shields in different colors, to add some difference to them. There's also a weapon cache, I think that one is from Kow: Vanguard. 

For the armory I've also painted up a barrel of explosives and a grinding stone. Looking forward to doing some black smith stuff. I have a furnace and such around somewhere. 

The pile of armor and weapons are from the treasure room terrain crate. The other piles are made from different pieces from the collection. The crates and barrels are from renedra, hobby stores and some resin pieces I don't know where I got from. I've just added weapon bits from the bit box to make them into armory bits. 

Terrain: Storage Room

Storage room

For the storage room I've pulled out a lot of different terrain crate pieces. All manner of different boxes, crate, chests and food stuff. Some of these pieces I've made earlier for Frostgrave. It's cheap Renedra barrels, ebay wooden barrelse and other bits glued together. 

The cool barrel of sausages is from Dunkeldorf kickstarter. Some of these pieces will also be turned into a kitchen room at some point. 

Terrain: Classic fantasy board

Once in awhile it's nice to take out everything with a certain theme and set i up. So I tried setting up a classic fantasy board, just to see where I'm at with terrain for that. And it turns out I'm pretty well set with different pieces. With my little village, farms and woods. The board below is a 2,5' x 6' board. So plenty of terrain already done for the game sizes play (often 3'x3').

Plans to expand

I still have plenty of pieces to expand this board. 

• I have four more small renedra huts in the garage. Different types than then ones I've already painted. 
• Fences. I have a lot more Renedra fences, that I need to paint. 
• There's a small stone church from Wargames Tournament. 
• Stone walls from Tiny Wargames. 
• Castle and lots of houses from TTCombat
• Also want to upgrade my fabric roads and glue to cardboard and add flock and sand. 

Joy to the fantasy world

I really don't play a lot fantasy games fitting for something like this, I just really like to build it and look at it. And that's what I want from my hobby. A big sprawling fantasy city filling an entire 4'x6' board, that would be so super duper awesome and good looking. 

Renedra Barn and Terrain Crate

Some time ago I bought the Warlord Games farm animal set, because I wanted some cows to make Brahmin for This Is Not A Test. And for a very few coins extra I could get a hard plastic Renedra barn in the deal - so I got that instead. Made a few upgrades to the kit.

Wanted to make this barn and some terrain crate scatter pieces for the village needed in the first Rangers of Shadow Deep scenario.

Base
Scavenged a bunch of strawberry boxes from a dumbster, perfect basing material. Add a cross of duct tape on the back, this will prevent warping when the thing is covered in pva glue. It's like magic! Te best trick.

The barn is easy enough to assemble, fairly simple kit. I used my hobby knife to cut out the barn doors and glue then in an open position (the sides are molded with closed doors in one piece). Attached the barn to the base with hot glue.

Cut up some bbq sticks with my hobby clippers. Roughly 2 cm pieces.

Using hot glue gun add the sticks to the base. Then I used thin mahogany sheets looted from a saw mill, 1mm thich pieces. Cut out long strips to make a fence. Used some wood glue for this part.

Made a hay stack outside the barn. Glued a stone to the base and covered it in yellow flock from Green Stuff World. The water thing and hay bale are from Mantic Games terrain crate. 

Added some 'ivy', superglue on the building and then some green saw dust flock.

I strew some yellow flock on the floor inside the barn to look like scattered hay.

Added some terrain crate details outside the little side shed. The logs and bucket are terrain crate pieces.

Wurt the woodcutter from Dunkeldorf looking like he lost something.

The wagon is one of the coolest pieces from the terrain crate kickstarter, it's a detail that adds a lot of life to a village setup.

And a pile of goods.

Terrain: Renedra Huts and obectives

Renedra is making really cheap hard plastic huts. They make different styles, but I've picked up the timber ones, as I thought them to have the best texture on the surface. The huts are so cheap and sturdy, that I didn't want to bother making scratch build ones. The roof can be taken off for indoor objective placement - but there's no detail on the inside. 

The paint job is a fast different brown base coats, with a quick drybrush and a heavy layers of Army Painter quick shade varnish.

I've chosen to glue my huts to some small bases, for a better a finish. Used some of my forest sprinkle mix on the outside, and added sand to the inside of the huts. 

I really hope Renedra bring out more dirt cheap kits like this, that would be awesome. And these small huts will be used for tribals in Ghost Archipelago, in Burrows and Badgers, Vanguard and Rangers of Shadowdeep. So many games to drop them into.

A small village ready for any classic fantasy setting.

And a small Mantic damsel in distress, captured by some brutal feral orcs. The orc slave heads is a nice kit from Admiralty Miniatures that fit well on Games Workshop savage orc (or whatever they're called these days).

This is the first part of the Mantic Terrain Crate kickstarter I've painted. Up until now it's only been sitting in a box. But I'm getting ready for soem solo fantasy games, so better get to work on it.

I think this bonfire, the 'witch' and the bonfire is actually from the Vanguard kickstarter, that also came with some very nice terrain crate pieces for objectives.
