Dragonlance - The Heroes of the Chronicles

 I love the old Dragonlance books. It's some of the first fantasy I read as a child, I've read them again as a grown up. And for a period in elementary school I read lots of Dragonlance series. I've always wanted this old set of pewter miniatures, from sometime back in the 80s. 

I've seen the set go for insane amounts of money, when they are complete. I obviously never spend that amount of cash on miniatures, so I've collected them over many years. Getting an extra miniature here and there in job lots, aution bits and so on. 

Over on the Discord Community, we have quarterly hobby challanges. One of them was to make something that had been in your pile of potential for a long time, so I went with these guys. 

Looking at photos on the internet, old book covers and wikipedia articles, I've tried to hit the 'right' colors for all parts of the miniatures. 

I'm glad to have these in the glass cabinet, despite them never going to see any action on a board. I made 2nd place in the hobby challange. 

These are all done in army painter speed paint, with some prewashing in different washes. They've had some drybrushing and highlights after a layer of varnish. 

Goldmoon and Riverwind

Gave Goldmoon a blue crystal staff, because it's cool when magical. I wondered about the lute, but that comes from the very first pages in the first book at the inn in Solace. I can't recall her ever playing again.

Tikka and Tasselhof

Tikka was easy to find on a front cover. Tasselholf is actually painted on multiple diffrent covers, so went for some colors that wasn't used on the other heroes. The sculpts is a bit weird, especially in the face. Tasselhof looks very grim and not childlike in the sculpting, that's a bit of a shame. 

Sturm Brightblade and Flint Fireforge

Flint is not depicted greatly in the old front pages, so I took more artistic freedom on him. Sturm is spot on from front covers. Sturm has a really nicely sculpted plate armor. That worked well with a gun metal, wash, silver drybrush.  

Laurana and Tanis

Laurana originally have a huge pewter dragonlance, but that has been lost. So the only conversion done is finding her a replacement. Since these are meant to be wielded from dragon back, I found a long high elf spear, I think it has a size fitting. 

Caramon and Raistlin

The only thing I still find missing in this collection is a dublicate of the Raistlin miniature, I want to paint a black version of him as well at some point. 

I had trouble finding a photo of the front of Caramons shield. So in the end I went with a cool red bull, I find it fitting for the character. It's part of the excellent series of decal sheets done by Wiegraff / Carthage Must Be Destroyed.

Forbidden Psalm warband

 Back for Horisont Con in May, we tried out Forbidden Psalm (Mörk Borg). It's a crazy random skirmish game with random characters and really deadly. I decided to paint up a warband for it using the mutants from King Games - Dunkeldorf line. 

This was also my first attempt at using Speed Paints. I've learned a lot since then, and I like the colors better now than I did when painting these. I made sure to use every colors in set set across these guys. 

A lot of pople love Mörk Borg and anything realated to it (there's been so many kickstarters with suff). The system and style is not really for me though. But it was decent fun trying out the game. At least it's a bunch a cool painted miniatures.

As you need a ranged fighter for Forbidden Psalm I did a bit of conversion work on this miniature. Gave him a crossbow, quiver and hand with bolt fro mthe bit box. Easy enough conversion to do, no problem there. The scale fit well. 

Terrain: Carriage and Wagon

 Wagons add a lot of life to a any fantasy board - be it city of farmstead. I want to have lots of wagons and carts parked around my fantasy city when it's all done. 

I also want some colors on as much of my city as possible. So my wagons will all have some colors, besides just brown wood. First up is a nice big Reaper Bones wagon. It's a good chunky terrain, with room for miniatures in the back. 

I've painted it wooden brown, red outside with green wheels. The straw in the back is just yellow static grass added with a tiny bit of super glue. This is a really playable piece, adding height and cover for games. 

The farmer is a straight up Fireforge Miniatures angry peasant. A great kit for making a bunch of civilians for a game like Guilders: A Life In Shadows. 

The second is a carriage 3d printed by a friend. I found this one on thingeverse - it also has a detailed interior - but I haven't done anything for that. The inside will never really be used in my games anyway. 

There's a heist in Guilders named 'The Carriage', where that's the target. So I wanted on what was a bit more than a peasents wagon. I've painted it in the same colors as I've done my city guard - so it'll fit well with the city's king or nobles. 

For this build, it was the first time for my trying the speed paitn white - which I could not make work in any way. It just turned out grey for me. ... so in the end I ended up drybrushing whie on the roof. Will have to see if there's any tips for making the white speed paint work, I like speed paint for terrain. 

I will need to fix up some pole thing for pulling the cart and paint up a couple of horses for it. That comes later at some point.
