I love the Plague! The big evil in the Warpath Universe, a weaponized virus turning anything living (except Orcs) into killing machines. Big mutated killers, faster, tougher and some still able to use weapons.
This are a mix of metal, restic and new plastic kits. All from Mantic Games. I've went for a Necrotic Flesh (Army Painter) base coat, a Dirty Grey (Reaper Paints) chitin/bone with uniform colours fitting my other Deadzone teams. I've added lots of Blood for the Blood God (from GW) and slime Nurgles Rot (GW).
I wanted my Plague to look like the monsters they are.
For a lot of the bases, I've added the same ooze cannisters that can be found on much of my sci-fi terrain, all leaky! It fits these miniatures really well, and all the plague models have sores oozing the same greenish pus.
I also plan on running most of these models in Scrappers. Using some models as a band of radical mutants and the bigger beasts as random encounters / wandering monsters.
Stage 1A and dogs
The Stage 1A is patient zero, the first infected by the Plague Virus and the alpha of the army. This model is huge! I'm very pleased with the blood spatter on his hands, adds to his menacing pose.
The Stage 3D 'Plague Dogs' are from new the Stage 3 plastic sprue. I don't like their heads, way to big and cartoony. I have some of the old restic plague dogs, and I might do those at some point - much better sculpts.
Subject 901 and Stage 2A
Subject 901 is my favourite plague miniature. His was part of the Warpath Kickstarter. Stage 2As are normally all 'kill, eat, repeat' - but this guys has had some experiments done to him, giving him more brain function. A very nice metal miniature. His orange pants are also used on other models in the force. I plan on painting the 'plague victims' from Star Saga in this colours as well and also my Dreadball Extreme convicts. Allowing me to play some cool scenarioes with prisoners / test subjects taking control of some facility.
The Stage 2As are also called 'Leapers'. Cool models, good poses. If I ever decided to make some more of these, I'll repose them all with hot water. An easy thing to do as these are restic models.
Stage 2B 'Bursters'
But having played Left 4 Dead I tend to call them 'Boomers'. These big guys are all about getting close to the enemy and then exploding in pus, blood and sickness. Metal miniatures, fit well together, but they are extremly heavy.
Dr. Simmonds
Dr. Simmonds is a leader for the Plague, a highly intilligent scientist - and even before her infection a leading expert in the virus. I've painted her in a white uniform with blue details. I've given these colours to other infected as well (and will do so to the Star Saga scientists). Again it's for allowing me to run some cool thematic scenarios. My Enforcers even use the same colours, suggestion that the two were on the same team in some time past.
Aqissiaq and Plague Teraton
Qissiaq is an infected sphyr and a merc option for the Plague. The Teraton is a nasty monster, that retains its ability to teleport even after infection. The teratons tail is made from a Burster tentacle arm, as I used its tail on my Reb Teraton Shock Trooper (who lost his own). It's a neat little conversion, easy to do as the thing is a big mutant. Both are painted in the same colours as my Reb force, as that has Sphyr and Teratons in it.
Stage 3A 'General' and Stage 3As
The guy in the black coat is a Leader option for the Plague - and a terrible sculpt. The platic kit is easy to assemble, but the 'coat torso' is terrible. No matter the legs, the head will look as if it's looking into the ground. So had to do some chopping to make him look good.
I've painted these guys in colours that goes with other forces I have. Grey uniforms with red for GCPS, white/blue for lab personel and blue/red for Rebs.
Stage 3A Specialists
I've gone for a 'one of each' aproach. All these special weapons are part of the Plague Stage 3A sprue, so you're getting lots of cool bits for other conversions. I've made a heavy machine gunner, a grenade launcher, a flamethrower and a mortar team. Same thing with uniforms on these guys. But a couple oranges - prisoners, guinea pigs or perhaps dock workers.
Stage 3Z 'Zombies'
The zombie models are a very nice little sprue. It even comes with a bit of female bits - a thing that's unfortunately lacking from the Stage 3A sprue. The zombies are the last strain of infection. They don't get huge, they only get braindead and hungry. I need to make a lot more as these are really cheap in game. So I need 15 for a Zombie Horde list and up to 20 for playing solo games of Deadzone. But it'll also make for some very cool Star Saga scenarios, with a space ship full of zombies.
Murder Birds
I got this kit as part of the Warpath Kickstarter - and it contains a lot of birds. Enough for five bases. I've only assembled the coolest two (and most sci fi). Other than these two there to flying swarms of small birds and a flying big bird. But I'm saving those for potential fantasy projects (Frosgrave crow masters etc). This is some very heavy metal models, even the wall section is 7mm thick metal.
Plague Aberration
Sometimes the mutating virus goes extra crazy on the victims. Most of the directly infected die instantly, a few turn into Stage 1As and then some turn into Aberrations. Huge mountains of muscles, bone, spikes, anger and strength. Originally it has something that resembles a human head, but in order to make it even more monstrous I've added a Ver-Myn Night Terror head instead.
My Plague Strike Force
The entire Plague strike team on March 25th 2017. Will have a strider and Star Saga models added to it, at some point.
