The Walking Dead: Two small games

I recently started playing The Walking Dead again and had a friend over who hasn't tried the game. So I build a few quick board. I really do love the small 2' boards for TWD, it's super easy to tell a small story with a few pieces of terrain. Took some small video and photos of the setups, didn't really do any AAR notes though.

Gas station
Here's a small gas station setup, using one of my Deep Cut mats. Using the TTCombat gas station and some toy cars.

Suburbia
A quick little suburbia americana setup. Used one of my TTCombat houses, some picket fence for a garden and a school bus - it doesn't really get more zombie apocalypse than this.

Let's Play. The Walking Dead - Days Gone By chapter 6

It's time for the conclusion of the first narrative campaign for The Walking Dead - Days Gone By. This scenario is a bit different, as it's actaully written as a PvP scenario. But this one was played streamed live on Twitch, and I tried including the viewer to take control of Shane, while I controlled Rick and Carl.

The setup was fairly simple. A 20"x20" board with lots of wood and forrest pieces on it.

Let's Play: The Walking Dead - Days Gone by Chapter 5

The Walking Dead: Days Gona By campaign is coming to a close. In this scenario the entire band of survivors in the Atlanta camp are asleep in tents or the RV. Then a ton of walkers creep in on the camp. Repair the RV, wake people up and get out of there.

There's a full Let's Play on Youtube, or you can watch it right here.

Setup

Tried setting up the scenario pr specifications in the rulebook. The RV in the middle and a few tents. Then four woods around the camp. I marked out a 20"x20" area with tape, to get a closer and more deadly game.

The Walking Dead: Days Gone By chapter 4

It's time to get through the fourth scenario in The Walking Dead: Days Gone By. Having survuded the attack on the camp, Rick and Glenn are heading back to Atlanta in search for guns. Winning this scenario could be crucial for the succes of the final large battle in the first part of the story.

Check out how the game went on Youtube

Setup

Made a 2'x2' board, with a setup as described in the scenario. But I did add a lot of buildings as a border, making one of them a gun store. Even though not necessary for the game, it does look good.

There's step-by-step, tutorial and other post about all my modern terrain in this hub

The Walking Dead: Days Gone By chapter 3

Next up in my attempt to play through The Walking Dead all solo is chapter three - Campfire Tales.

Rick has made it out of Atlanta - but only barely. You can check a video of my playing scenario number two: City Slicker right here.

But my camera messed up and didn't capture my first attempt at the second scenario. And that was rough. The game started out well with Rick finding Riot Gear and Hand Grenades. But right in the end it ended with Rick getting swarmed.

So for this third scenario the survivors have no equipment bonus from scenario two and Rick starts the game already wounded.

Setup

Made a quick little forrest setup. There's step-by-step blogs for the woods here. Used my TT Combat RV and some tents from Renedra. Fits the scenario description fairly well.

Youtube video

And here's a video of my run of the scenario. I nice game, had great fun with it.

The Walking Dead: Days Gone By chapter 2

Time to play the second game in Days Gone By for Mantic Games The Walking Dead: All Out War

In the first game Rick, Morgan and Duane managed to get a bag of guns from the Atlanta police station and all the supplies on the board. So for this scenario Rick started with 20 extra points for equipment.

Rick went into the game with a hatchet, bandages and a horse. In my first play of this scenario, the camera messed up and didn't save the video. But in that try Rick lost, he died swarmed by walkers. Didn't secure any supplies. Let's see if he does better this time.

The video is inserted below or linked here. You can see all my Walking Dead videos in a special playlist for that game.

Setup for the game. Made a small board looking like an inside of the Atlanta. Pust some buildings in the corners all for looks, a small house in the center and some cars. You can check out all my different modern terrain here.

The Walking Dead: Days Gone By chapter 1 - youtube

Recently I played some games of The Walking Dead: All Out War. And it's actually been a long time since I've played the game. I really enjoyed it. So I decided to take up the narrative solo campaign again.

I've already played through the first three scenarios, but it's been such a long time. So I setup my new cameras and decided to stream the game.

Here's my setup. This entire streaming and video thing is pretty new. But it's good fun and I'll get to generate some material for Youtube.

How about dropping over and putting a follow on both Twitch and Youtube

So starting from the beginning. Rick, Morgan and Duane are heading towards Ricks old police station, to get themselves a lot of guns! Check out how it went in the video below.

Setup
The gaming area is on a 2'x2' deep cut mat, so a bit larger than the rules suggest. The houses are just for flair and look, not really part of the gaming area. The objective was to get near the police station and break down the door.

I've written blog post for all the terrain used in the video. Check out my modern terrain here

Thank you for watching! Let me know what you think, this is new territory for me, so input is much appreciated.

Terrain: Army Vehicles and radar

I've already upgraded a whole bunch of toys for the different game systems I play. I have this plan to build a full military base. For that I needed a truck, which will also see use in some Walking Dead scenarios around Woodbury.

And as part of my 2020 summer plans, I want to build a ton of military base terrain. Towers, sandbags, hesco bastion and so on. But here's the start for the project at least.

I found a good toy and did a bit of work on it. This first one is a generic army truck, usable for every country. I also got some specific Russian vehicles for use in Zona Alfa.

Scratch the entire thing with sandpaper to make paint and wash stick better.

Use masking tape to cover any glass, metal and wheels you don't want base coated.

Painting the truck
Give the truck a spray of OD green. Then give the entire thing a thick layer of different washes. I've been using both strong and dark tone for this one. Only base coated this one because the green seemed off, it wasn't close enough to that military green.

Russian truck
When gearing up to playing some Zona Alfa I went online to find some russian military vehicles. I have mostly humvees and other very american looking vehicles. Found an ebay seller with some cheap toys, actual models of real vehicles.

These were better in color, so only gave these a mat varnish and a thick layer of wash.

BTR-80 (not really)
This is another toy. A BTR-80 is a Russian armored personel carrier, so it was an obvious must have for the Zona Alfa board.

This is actually a german APC it turns out, so it was wrongly labelled on ebay, but nevermind that.

It's another quick wash job. Actually there's a few pieces on it that could have been picked out (shovels, axes etc) - might go back an do that one day.

Sarissa Precision Radar
Got this kit on black friday when Sarissa had some very good discounts on their kits. I still have plans to make a large military base and is slowly adding pieces for it.

This little kit is super cheap and easy to put together. A simple OD green base coat, grey base and a dusty layer of brown. Done.

TWD: Wave 4 retail exclusives

It's been a very long time since all the kickstarter The Walking Dead models came. Now I've finished painting up the retail exclusives for wave 4 - Made To Suffer. I think the idea behind retail exclusives is brilliant, keeps the game fresh for Kickstarter backers.

The Walkers
Each of the walkers from the boosters are from a perk on the kickstarter campaign - pay a lot of money and get turned into a walker. I decided to paint one of the up to match my prisoner walkers, feeling I was missing a bit for the prison yard.

Tyreese and Michonne - riot gear
I really like the riot gear sculpts Mantic have done. And the complete set with Rick and Glenn is badass. It'll cost a lot of points in the game though.

Woodbury - the remaining guys
The last of the gang from Woodbury and the forces of The Governor.
I think Tom is one of the coolest models yet for this game, the model is oozing action. I'll be using it a lot, it's such a great pose. And it's also good to finally have Lilly in the collection, she's playing a pretty important role in the story.

Modern Corpse Markers

I've been wanting some corpse markers for my modern games. When I last made an order from TT Combat I was thinking of getting their resin ones. But as always I'm easily put off by price - thinking 'this is the same as a small building'. I also really dislike the brittle nature of even good resin.

From some late night Ebay search a large box of Studio Miniatures zombies. They are dirt cheap and come in a box of 60. They are some fairly boring sculpts (unlike the Studio Miniature metal models).

I've used some of those and a single Warlord female survivor to make some corpses.

There's four different bodies on the plastic sprue, so I decided to go for 8 corpses, half being face up - half being face down. There's eight different heads, so I used one of each.

Using clippers I added various injuries to the bodies. Clipping off limbs and messing up the cut areas even more.

To make the models stronger, prevent breaking, I've glued them to the thinnest plastic card I have - to look like blood pools.

This was an easy little project that will add Last Days: Massacre Site and my games of Walking Dead.
Showcase and painting
The corpses were painting in simple colors, blood pools painted red. They were given a heavy wash of quick shade. Lastly I used the technical Blood For The Blood God to add shiny fresh blood.

First three corpses. The female one is from Warlord Games.

All these are studio plastics. Made sure to make a doctor / nurse, painted with a simple red cross on the shoulders. I have used the same uniform for both alive survivors and some nurse  walkers. Allowing a better themed setup.

The yellow vehicles with blue triangles are the colors of an emergency agency in Denmark. Made one corpse in the uniform of these guys as well. I still need a few walking zombies in these uniform colors.

Last corpse is painted in US woodland camouflage pattern. It's the same colors I've used on my infantry squad.

TWD: Sibling Rivalry

After her first game of The Walking Dead yesterday, my youngest daughter asked for another game today. This time her older (11 years) brother was in on a fight. He haven't played the game before either.

Like earlier, the kids just got some models that they liked. We then found some equipment for them. Both teams ended up around 250 pts.

My daughter chose Abraham (with m4 assault rifle), Curtis (with machete), Bruce (hammer and gun) and Shiva.

My son took Billy (with a rifle), Tyreese (with a big axe), Harold (bat) and Ezekiel (gun and knife).

We played on a 2'x2' with a brick house in the middle. We place 10 supply counter on the board, with 2 on each floor of the house. Looking through a window would spawn a blue dice walkers inside. Getting to the stairs would spawn a blue dice walkers on the first floor.

Both my kids took a very silent and sneaky route. They didn't fire guns and didn't go for attacking each other. They spend a lot of time 'holding their nerve' and only failed 1 time in 8 rolls. ... How come they don't live like this in real life I don't know.

Both kids took a very solid group approach, staying close, sneaking, ganging up on single walkers.

Two walkers spawned on the ground floor of the old hardware store. It would take an action to open the door.

Both groups was at the front door at the same time and it finally came to some ugly confrontations. Tyreese took it upon himself to fight Shiva in a cluster of survivors. Despite Tyreese having backup and the best odds, Shiva scratch him bad. With a ! and sharp claws he was hurt badly.

He took revenge the turn after where Billy took aim and killed Shiva with a single well placed shot.

Being in front with supply gathered my son rushed into the store, to grab the supplies there - getting way in front. Tyreese and Harold are both good in combat and made short work of the walkers inside.

Abraham (and my daughter angry over the loss of Shiva) went inside and unloaded three rounds of shooting at Harold. Multiple Shots (2) and Assault turned him dead (but he wasn't hit in the head).

The battle ended in a big fight inside the building. After the fighting became both kids stopped lowering the Threat Tracker and it quickly gained. Tyreese ended Abraham with a swing of the axe. Bruce killed Ezekiel.

When the threat tracker hit 18, both groups had lost two survivors. My daughter had lost Abraham and Shiva. My son had lost Ezekiel and Harold. My daughter got off with three supply tokens over my sons two. Curtis had avoided combat and sneaked around the house to get some unclaimed loot.

A very nice game with my kids. They enjoy it. While driving to the beach later, we talked about possible scenarios. PvP and PvE. Lots of different ideas.

We're gonna play some more TWD this summer break I'm certain.
