Last Days: Everyday Heroes of Bai Wu

Everyday Heroes - refuge Police Station
This is the survivor group for my regular opponent. These guys are used in out first Last Days Campaign.

Leader - Bai Wu (Everyday Hero)
An undercover cop, was infiltrating the triads before the apocalypse. When the shit hit the fan he fled to his old police station, hoping to find other survivors and friends.

On the way there he met Dr. James Hendricks (Rescue Worker), his daughter Dorothy (Kid) and their dog Toto. They had a stash of old medicine journals and first aid supplies.

There was no police officers at the station. But there was a lone survivor, and office clerk and former football player Duncan Atkins (Tough Guy). He had barricaded himself at the station and let the other group members in.

When realizing the apocalypse was a permanent situation, they decided to let out the lone detention inmate. A pastor names Father Rothschilds (Good Samaritan) was being held for being drunk in public. He joned the group upon release.

After one tough night at the station, the group was contacted by the National Guard soldier Frederick Luis (soldier). Frederick had gotten lost from his platoon during battle against the zombie hordes. He's helping the group led by Bai Wu, hoping to find members of The Army. He's certain The Army can help survivors to a safety zone.

Roman RISK - The Map

The map for the Roman RISK project is complete. A huge 3m x 1,5 m map of the area around the Mediterranean Sea.

On the completed map I've added the latin names that I've been able to find and the cities that were (in some form another) around at 44BC. Some cities have latin names but are build after the 44BC - but still Roman citites.

Some cities of tactical (or pure historical) importance have laurels added to them - these territories are worth 2 points. Rome itself is worth 5 points. I've also added the 7 Wonders of the Antiquity (minus Hanging Gardens and Colossus of Rhodes). These are also worth 2 points.

The territories themselves (around 200) are not marked by anything in particular. But with the 8 teams playing, there's 25 territories for each to conquer.

I've added Roman Provinces from this map. Deping on the number of territories in a province, controlling an entire province will add further bonus points to the team. There's 19 provinces to control and a few territories not belonging to any province.

So all in all, there is a lot of ways the teams can plan to expand their power and gain point.

When we get to play, I'll tape all the individual (35 of them) a3 pieces together, so is presented really sharp.

All the resources used (pictures, thumbnails, legend etc) is collected in a folder, you can download here.

A shot of the entire map.

One of the two point territories containing Syracusae.

Three wonders of the ancient world.

Rome, worth 5 points. Vesivius doesn't give extra points, but will be used as the base for a workshop.

The legend showing the different provinces, their point values and the colors they're marked with on the map.

Deadzone: GCPS 100 pts list

The GCPS is a super cool faction in Deadzone. The marine grunts, the soldiers getting killed in Starship Trooper, the marines in Aliens, Firefly Alliance troopers - these are the guys.

I've converted up a lot of options (going for one of each). And just finished painting a small 100 pts Deadzone team (see them last in the post).

Besides Deadzone the models are great for a number of things. I want to use these guys as evil cooperation troopers in cyberpunk games - like Reality's Edge. Handling security and clean up where necessary.

WIPs
Here's shot of the entire GCPS group I've build. Trying make sure there's a visible difference between marines, veterans and rangers. Gonna write more about them as I paint them up.

Painting
I've gone for a light grey uniform, with dark grey webbing, black details and red as a spot color. I've pained a lot of my Plague troops in similar colors, to work as tainted and infected troops from the same army. And the Plague Stage 3 general is having the same coat as the general here. Plague post.

100 pts - six man strike team
Lead by a Major-General, with three GCPS veterans (two with extra ammo) and two specialist: sniper and grenade launcher.

The Major-General is a cool old metal model. Compared to the other troops he has a 'I don't care, I'm in charge' appearance. Did a simple head swap, as I don't like bare headed soldiers.

The veteran marines are a better choice the regular marines. There's not a big point different, but they shoot a lot better. I've made the veterans different in look by using the ranger arms and guns. They've have more gear on them and a bulkier look. Also added a sidearm to the veterans, to make them stand out.

For more visual difference I've added a red symbol to the helmet (also on the officer).

The specialists aren't veterans, at least not in the rulebook wording. So these guys don't have the symbol on the helmet. The trooper with grenade launcher is straight out the box. The sniper is a converted model. Using the standard GCPS laser rifle, I've added a scope and silencer from the enforcer pathfinder tag-rifle.

Roman Risk: Map WIP

Here's an example of the map I'm working on for the Roman RISK project. 30+ territories on the phot. 6 sheets of A3 paper visible, the complete map will be from 35 sheets.

The territories are marked with a black line. Then I've added further borders for the three roman provinces in Spain (thought a the time of Caesar i might have been only two).

The smaller territories are not marked be any historical references, but the large provinces are fairly close to the historical ones.

Also adding roman names where possible (under the names on the map I found).

Lusitania, Baetica and Tarraconesis. Each territory is worth 1 point in the game, controlling an entire province will add bonus points, depending on the size of it. Also adding the roman names where possible, thought it's time consuming.

Using these as refences:

Sons of Mars: Spartacus, Crixus and Theokoles

Finished painting my first four gladiators for Sons of Mars, a gladiator combat game. The first three models are from Gale Force 9 who made a Spartacus boardgame. Found the expansion containing the three models for cheap, then sold the boardgame part for even cheaper models.

The retiarius is a metal model from Crusader Miniatures (Northstar)

Spartacus Thraex and Crixus Murmillo
Tried to mimic the colors from the TV show as much as I can. The episodes with Theokoles turned out to be the best for looking at the colors in detail - the TV show is very gritty and with dulled colors.

Crixus shield design was simple enough to paint, still happy that Spartacus didn't have one though.

Theokoles The Shadow Of Death - Dimachaerus
I'm normally doesn't mix colors while painting, but I did to fix this skin color. It's a mix of a pale elf tone and bone color. His hair is white mixed with bone color.

Retiarius
A classic gladiator. There's four sculpts in the blister pack and I liked this one the best, so he got painted first.

Roman RISK - Rules 0.1

Started writing down the rule ideas I have in my head. It'll take time to make it understandable for others. But I want other teachers to be able, to pick this up and use it.

On the Roman Risk page I will continuously update and add to this.

Roman RISK - Rules

This mega game project is inspired by RISK and the combat rules from this. But changed and adapted to work as a center for teaching about Roman history.

The goal
The goal for each team is to get the most power by the end of the week. Each territory is worth one point. The team with the most points will be elected the new Emperor of Rome.

Teams
There's roughly 200 students, 4th to 6th grade - in eight classes. These will be mixed into 8 teams.

Fluent turns - real time
The game is played in real time, with no turns. Students from the eight teams will take actions as the come to the board (taking a small break from the entire-day-class). They can buy units, move units or attack another team.

If multiple teams want to do multiple actions at the same time, they will go in turn. Making a single move, buying units or attacking a single territory.

Not all students will want to take actions, move game pieces or roll dice. And not all will be at the table at the same time. They will move to and from, still working in whatever classes they have.

Unlike RISK: There's no cards to gain units, no skipping a turn for free untis etc. This makes dropping turns possible and making a fluent game.

Denarii
All units and upgrades are bought with denarii. Denarii are given to students by teachers. Each teacher is given a high amount of denarii at the days start. They are instructed to hand out a roughly equal amount (so different classes won't vary too much).

Denarii are awarded to teams for complete tasks, to recognize individuals doing good, for working well together. There's no set rules, they are meant to encourage good work and behavior. So this is completely up to the teachers.

Combat
Combat is inspired by regular Risk. A team can move units from their own territory into and enemy territory. The attacking player may roll up to three dice, the defender may roll up to two dice - if they have enough units.

High numbers will beat low numbers. Draws will be won by the defender. Combat is fought until the attacker pulls back or one side have lost all units.

Roman RISK - page launch

Next year - week 6 in 2019, I'm gonna run a huge 200 student Roman RISK game for a week. The project is starting to take form. So I've added a page to collect blog posts regarding this:
